The Director
Professor Colleen Cartwright came to Southern Cross University at the beginning of 2005 to take up the position of Foundation Professor of Aged Services and Director of ASLaRC. She holds the BCU Neville Spear Chair in Aged Services and is developing an exciting program of work that will incorporate professional development, undergraduate and postgraduate education and community forums, alongside a portfolio of research that has particular relevance to older people in rural and regional areas of Australia. She also provides consultancy on older people's issues to local, state and national government departments and agencies.

Associate Professor Jim Curran
A/ Prof Jim Curran is an Associate Professor in the University of NSW Rural Clinical School (RCS). The School has four regional campuses, one of which is in Coffs Harbour. The RCS is a partner with Southern Cross University in ASLaRC. Click here for more information on RCS.
Jim was the first Director of ASLaRC and remains the RCS representative and contact point.
Apart from teaching medical students, his interests lie in population dynamics and the provision of medical and nursing services to regional, ageing communities.

Location
Situated on the beautiful Mid North Coast of New South Wales, 554 km north (seven to eight hours drive) of Sydney and 427 km (five hours drive) south of Brisbane, ASLaRC is based at M-Block, Southern Cross University on the Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC).
ASLaRC serves the region from Port Macquarie in the South to the Queensland border in the North and West to Dorrigo.

Core Research and Community Activities
While a major area of our work involves frail older people living in the community and in residential aged care, we are also interested in a broad range of issues affecting well older people, with a goal of helping them to stay fit and healthy.
